J. B. Pritzker signed an executive order on Thursday, October 30th directing $20 million to Illinois food banks as the state prepares for a possible lapse in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits amidst the federal government shutdown.
With SNAP recipients already facing uncertainty and demand surging at community pantries, our South Side pantries stand as critical lifelines.
Here’s a curated list of community-based food pantries on the South Side of Chicago. Be sure to contact each location in advance, verify hours and eligibility, and bring ID or a bag if required.
