Chicago Black Restaurant Week has returned for its 11th year. The event kicked off Sunday, February 8, and runs through Sunday, February 22.
The annual tradition was created in 2015 by Lauran Smith, a native of Memphis who has long called Chicago home. The first Chicago Black Restaurant Week launched in February 2016 as a tribute to Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the historian who established Negro History Week on February 7, 1926, to recognize and honor the achievements of African Americans. Inspired by that legacy, Smith built the event to showcase and uplift Black-owned restaurants throughout Chicago.
