We are thrilled to welcome Hope Moses, a Master of Science Candidate at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, to the Chicago Southsider team. Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hope earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Marquette University and brings valuable expertise to our organization.
Hope will work closely with us to further develop “South Side Untold,” a new AI-generated podcast exploring Chicago’s South Side. In addition to her strong newsroom leadership, Hope also has valuable experience in data mining and data visualization, as well as podcast production.
She was a leader of Marquette’s student newspaper, where she increased engagement by incorporating diverse media clips, such as radio and TV, into the newsletter. Additionally, during her time as Executive Director of Student Media at Marquette, Hope implemented DEI initiatives that addressed gaps in student media.
Hope served as a co-host for “The K1 and Stewie Show,” handling audio and video production, creating questions, and managing social media. She also took a podcasting class last spring, which helped her develop skills for creating, publishing, and monetizing podcasts.
Her other experiences include being the Inaugural Foley Fellow at the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, a reporting intern at the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service, and the Ray Kenney Business Intern at Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She was also awarded the IWL Transformational Leadership award for her work at Marquette.
We’re excited to see how Hope’s skills and experience will help shape our coverage and expand our reach in telling the untold stories of Chicago’s South Side!
About Chicago Southsider
Chicago Southsider is a Facebook Bulletin newsletter-turned-community news platform dedicated to “unlocking the other side of Chicago’s South Side, one community at a time.” Founded in 2021, our mission is to amplify the stories, perspectives, and experiences of South Side communities. Through solutions journalism and community-driven storytelling, we challenge the narrow “Chiraq” stereotypes, offering deeper and more authentic narratives about Chicago’s South Side.
Chicago Southsider’s weekly newsletter reaches over 30,000 subscribers, sharing local events and businesses, South Side history, and solutions journalism. Our reporting sweet spot is housing—from the Great Migration to the Fair Housing Act to redevelopment on Chicago’s South Side, we dive into the intersection of housing and history and provide resources to educate and inform decision-making.
