In an inspiring celebration of educators across the nation, Jasmine Williams, a dedicated Montessori teacher from Chicago’s South Side, won 4th place in the first-ever America’s Favorite Teacher contest organized by Colossal in 2024.
Out of more than 700,000 teachers who began this journey, only 8 moved on to the final competition, including Chicago’s very own Jasmine Williams. On Friday, June 7th, 2024, Jasmine Williams was announced as the fourth place winner.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized in the America’s Favorite Teacher contest,” Williams said. “This acknowledgment reaffirms my commitment to nurturing young minds and making a difference in our community. I am incredibly grateful for the support from my students, their families, and my colleagues.”
The top three finalists of the contest were Erica Boyce from New York, Shelly Starline from Ohio, and Kelly Milgrim from Arizona. As the 2024 winner of America’s Favorite Teacher, Kelly Milgrim received a $25,000 prize, a trip to Hawaii, and an appearance in Reader’s Digest.
This contest not only recognizes exceptional teachers across the country but also raises significant funds to support educational initiatives. Last year, the contest succeeded in raising over $2.7 million for Teach For America, a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for children in underserved communities.
Registration is now open for the 2025 competition. In addition to the prizes announced during the 2024 competition, the winner will also receive a virtual school assembly with Bill Nye the Science Guy.
