During the 2020-2021 academic year, there were more than 99,000 accounting degrees awarded by U.S. colleges and universities. That’s down from the prior year’s total of 101,094.

Accounting is the language of business and it can grant you access to any industry in the world. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow 6 percent from 2021 to 2031. They make a median yearly salary of $77,250 as of 2021.

Your job prospects will typically improve if you pursue the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. But you’ll most likely have to enroll in additional college coursework in order to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam.

Accountants need a bachelor’s degree, which often means signing off on loads of student loan debt. Borrowers in the U.S. racked up $1.77 trillion in total student loan debt, according to Federal Reserve data for Q3 2022. The average student borrower takes out around $34,000 during a 4-year Bachelor’s degree program. If you add on the extra coursework needed for a CPA, the cost of a degree could jump significantly.

Fortunately, there are many scholarships you can apply for to reduce your educational costs. If you need extra motivation to get through the scholarship process, grab Debt-Free Before Graduation on Amazon.

Let’s jump into these upcoming scholarships that you can add to your list and apply for today. Need help? Feel free to reach out to us at hello@chicagosouthsider.com.
