On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Chicago’s South Side became the epicenter of empowerment as the Dearborn Realtist Board hosted a Community Wealth Building Day at Olive-Harvey College. The event featured the Tate Brothers—talented actors, producers, and entrepreneurs from Chicago’s West Side—who brought energy, transparency, and inspiration to a crowd eager to take the next step toward building generational wealth.

The Tate Brothers didn’t just speak as celebrities—they spoke as sons of Chicago, committed to rebuilding their city and making it a better place to live for all.

When Larenz Tate—widely known for the 1997 romance/drama Love Jones—asked the audience to share their fears and thoughts around homeownership, one community member stood up and shared her truth:

“And that’s the thing—it’s about outreach and education. For years, I thought I couldn’t own a home. I thought I wasn’t good enough. I had a housing choice voucher. Turns out—I own a home.”

She closed with a powerful reminder about the importance of community. “Each one, reach one, so we can teach one.”

Her testimony became the emotional heartbeat of the day—underscoring the need to educate, empower, and elevate those who may not yet see what’s possible.

At its core, the event was about more than real estate. It was about resilience, reclaiming financial power, and spreading knowledge—especially in Black and brown communities that have historically been left out of the housing market.

Dearborn Realtist Board: A Legacy of Housing Advocacy

Founded in 1941, the Dearborn Realtist Board is the Chicago chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). For decades, the organization has been a pillar in promoting the principle of “Democracy in Housing.” Through education and advocacy, the board continues to push forward its mission to close the racial wealth gap by increasing Black homeownership.
