The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago released its schedule for free museum entry days for Illinois residents, through June 2024. From Monday, January 22nd, you and your family have the opportunity to explore the museum’s thrilling Giant Dome Theater and the variety of exhibits and events during the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, Illinois Free Days.

The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago is located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood near the University of Chicago.

Black History Month Exhibits & Events

Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition

This longest-running exhibition of African American art has been displayed annually at MSI since 1970. Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition features paintings, drawings, fine art prints, sculpture, mixed-media, ceramics and photography by African Americans, including youth artists between the ages of 14 and 17.

Black Creativity: Architecture

From ancient temples to soaring, modern skyscrapers, Black architects have had a strong presence throughout history. In this new exhibition, Black Creativity: Architecture recognizes and celebrates this tradition of greatness that continues to grow.

Black Creativity Career Showcase

In celebration of Black Creativity, kids and families can talk with African American artists, scientists and engineers about innovative work happening right here in our city. Professionals will be stationed throughout the Museum’s Main Level. This is an opportunity to learn from experts during dynamic demonstrations, hands-on activities and one-on-one conversations. Discover how to turn your passions into a career!

Meet Her! Mari Copeny

Most well-known as “Little Miss Flint,” Mari Copeny will be speaking at MSI! At the age of 8, Mari wrote to President Obama challenging him to visit Flint, Michigan, drawing the country’s attention to Flint’s water crisis. Mari is now 16 and continues to fight for water justice, partnering with the water company Hydroviv to donate and distribute lead removal filters to families and youth-serving organizations. Come hear her STEM story!

Ms. Williams is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism at DePaul University. During her time at DePaul she has worked with the Office of Multicultural Student Success and the Office of New Student and Family Engagement. She is also currently the Membership Coordinator for DePaul’s Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.
