Chicago has another reason to celebrate.
Nitsaniyah Fitch, Miss Illinois 2025, won the Officially HER Magazine Preliminary Evening Gown Award at the Miss America 2026 competition in Orlando this week.

Nitsaniyah dazzled in a silver beaded gown from L.A. Formals & Bridal. The floor-length gown featured a high neckline, side cutouts, and a dramatic open back, blending modern sophistication with timeless glamour. Its intricate beadwork shimmered under the stage lights, while a thigh-high slit and sweeping train added drama and movement with every step.
Nitsaniyah stood out on stage alongside Maria Derisavi, Miss Maryland, and Katie Wadman, Miss District of Columbia, who also received the honor. Each delegate earned a $3,000 scholarship for their achievement.
This recognition is a major milestone for Nitsaniyah, a 26-year-old fundraising professional who has already helped raise nearly $1 million for child-focused nonprofits across Chicago. Through her platform, Aspire Flourish Rise and Manifest (AFRM), she is creating opportunities for young women to dream bigger, pursue education, and step into leadership.
The Miss America competition continues through September 7 at Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, where Nitsaniyah will represent Illinois in the finals. At stake is the Miss America crown, a $50,000 scholarship for the winner, and additional awards for runners-up and semifinalists.
