Thousands of Chicago families will receive critical relief this winter.

Share Our Spare, a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides essential items to families in need, received a truckload of more than 265,000 diapers as part of a national initiative aimed at fighting diaper insecurity.

The donation was made on January 15, 2026 as part of the National Diaper Bank Network’s (NDBN) 15th anniversary campaign. The initiative is in partnership with Huggies®, which is donating 15 million diapers nationwide in just 15 days.

Diaper insecurity affects 1 in 2 U.S. families, according to the National Diaper Bank Network. For parents and caregivers already stretched thin by rising housing, food, and energy costs, diapers can quickly become an overwhelming expense.

The donated diapers will be distributed across Share Our Spare’s network of community partners, including shelters, food pantries, schools, and social service organizations throughout Chicago and Cook County.

For families across Chicago, the impact is immediate and meaningful.

“We’re starting off the year with a tremendous boost,” said Jesseca Rhymes, Interim Executive Director of Share Our Spare. “We consistently see more families and community-based organizations asking for diaper assistance, as they cope with an economy that is not designed to meet basic needs. We are grateful to NDBN and to Huggies® for helping us keep babies healthy and happy.”

Share Our Spare provides 60 diapers per child per month through its community partners, including health clinics, social service agencies, and grassroots organizations.
