Sharron Kagon took home the title of Miss Chicago Outstanding Teen 2023 at the Miss Chicago pageant on Saturday, January 7,2023. She was also the recipient of the Congeniality Award. Sharron was crowned by Miss Illinois Outstanding Teen 2022, Mia Fritch-Anderson, at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago, Illinois.
“I am honestly mostly shocked about this and I’m so excited to spend my last year as a teen [contestant] with Team Chicago,” Sharon told Chicago Southsider during a live interview after the pageant. “I want to show women they can be part of the STEAM world and that plus size women have a space in the Miss America organization.”
During the Miss Chicago competition, each contestant was required to perform their chosen talent on stage. Sharron, a 4th Degree Black Belt, impressed the audience with her martial arts skills. She started her Taekwondo journey at the age of 5 and is now using her talent to earn scholarships through the Miss America organization.
Sharron is currently a senior at Mundelein High School where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. She plans to pursue a career in biomedical engineering.
Sharron will promote her social impact initiative, We: Women Everywhere, Creating Opportunities for the Future Female Leaders in STEAM, during her reign. Last year, she competed in the Miss Illinois Outstanding Teen competition as Miss Northern Suburbs Outstanding Teen 2022. This year, she will represent Chicago at the Miss Illinois Outstanding Teen competition that will take place at the Marion Civic Center from June 6-10.
Miss Gold Coast’s Outstanding Teen Lily Troyan and Miss Windy City’s Outstanding Teen Alyssia Duda are also qualified to compete for Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen in June.
