Angel Reyes will represent Illinois in the Miss USA pageant. The competition kicks off on Sunday, October 2 with the Miss USA 2022 costume show at 7:30 pm PST (9:30pm CST). The final competition will take place at 5 pm PST (7:00pm) on Monday, October 3.

If Reyes brings home the title of Miss USA, she will represent the country at the Miss Universe Pageant, slated to take place in 2023.

Angel Reyes went from Miss Hermosa USA to Miss Illinois USA 2022 on Monday, May 30, 2022. The pageant took place at the Braden Auditorium of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.

Sydni Dion-Bennett, Miss Illinois USA 2021, had the honor of passing the torch to Reyes. Last year, Reyes was the 2nd runner-up at the state competition.

“Last night I competed in one of the biggest and stiffest competitions I’ve had in my career,” Reyes posted on Instagram. “I was 2nd runner up and I am honored and grateful to have been in the top 3 amongst 71 of the most talented, resilient, and fearless women I’ve had the pleasure to get to know.”

Reyes started competing in pageants at the age of 15, and has won local, state, national, and international titles during her journey.

She even placed Top 5 at Miss Illinois USA 2017, which took place in September 2016.

Reyes is breaking barriers as the second Latina ever crowned Miss Illinois in the pageant’s seven-decade history.

“It is such an honor to be named Miss Illinois USA 2022 because this win goes far beyond myself,” Reyes said in a statement. “Growing up, I didn’t see many role models who looked like me in the mainstream media and I hope to be an inspiration for other young Latinas who feel underrepresented. I want to show them that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and work hard”

Reyes, a medical aesthetics professional managing SpaDerma, has attended retreats and bootcamps with other contestants to prepare for competition. During her reign, she has participated in parades, photo shoots, and community service activities.

Dawn Parks will represent Illinois in the Miss Teen USA pageant. The former Miss Cook County Teen USA was crowned Miss Illinois Teen USA 2022 on Monday, May 30, 2022, in the Braden Auditorium of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.

“When something is a dream of yours, you should never stop pursuing it,” Dawn posted on Instagram. “It was through pageantry that I found my voice, going from a painfully shy young girl to a confident woman. This has confirmed that a dream may be deferred but is never denied. There are so many that I need to thank for pouring their time and endless talents into my journey.”

Dawn succeeded Miss Illinois Teen USA 2021 Gissell Bahena.

The future world-renowned chef is not a stranger to pageantry. She was Miss Teen Illinois International 2021 and went on to place first runner-up at Miss Teen International.

Dawn’s older sister, a former pageant Queen, has been a big supporter on her journey. She also gives credit to her first pageant coach, Aftan Brown, for encouraging her to dream big. Dawn paid tribute to Brown in an Instagram post for Women’s History Month.

“I am proud to say this inspirational woman was my very first pageant coach. She help me understand that no goal is too high and my true competition is with myself.”

You can find Dawn testing new recipes when she’s not walking on stage. She’s a culinary student at Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts.
